Don Maxson, an Ely resident and business person, artist and cartoonist. He created MAXTRAXcards.net Personalized Greeting Cards in 2007. Don moved to Ely in 1995 from the Twin Cities area and like many here had vacationed in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness with his family since the early 70’s. Fishing and Camping were such a passion he eventually left the city life behind to make his living in the land he calls home.
Don enjoys working with other members of the creative Ely community making artistic and useful products, from kneading bread at the local bakery, to working in construction, and creating his art. Drawing and cartoon illustrations are what he enjoys most and is his most valued talent and contribution. His art, feed by his humorous yet sarcastic wit, whether cards or posters or web designs are colorful, playful and witty. “All in good fun,” says Don.
He is proud to join in the fight to find truth and answers to the controversial issue of Copper Nickel Sulfide mining in our area. Keeping this land as pristine as when he was introduced to it in the early 70’s and as he has grown to love it is a major goal of Don’s. After a neutral position on the matter till just months ago a simple bit of research has led Don to a concern for why there is no good proof that Copper Nickel Sulfide Mining will be able to maintain the pristine condition of this area he loves.
